Ironwood Electronics has introduced the Raptor line of automatic test equipment (ATE) test contactors. The design uses a cartridge-based architecture that allows contactors to be replaced without removing the frame. The cartridges are based on a laminated structure intended to maintain alignment and dimensional stability. The configuration is designed to support extended mean time between assist (MTBA) by reducing handling during maintenance.
The PicoRaptor configuration uses rigid contact pins designed for high-frequency signal transmission and repeated insertion cycles. A single P-type elastomer is used to maintain uniform contact force between the load board and the device under test (DUT), while allowing limited lateral motion at the interface. The contact system incorporates an advanced contact finish (ACF) intended to stabilize contact resistance (Cres), reduce solder transfer, and extend load board service life.
The PowerRaptor configuration uses a cantilever-based contact geometry intended for power and automotive test conditions. The contact system can be configured for Kelvin or non-Kelvin measurement, depending on the application. An optional thermal conditioning approach, referred to as Airtherm, is used to regulate contact temperature. The contact geometry includes a controlled wiping action to maintain stable contact resistance over repeated cycles.
The cartridge-based mechanical design allows the alignment plate to be removed while keeping the frame in place, enabling replacement of the contactor assembly without full system disassembly. This approach is intended to reduce downtime during maintenance and testing operations.
The PicoRaptor configuration is available with 1 mm and 2 mm contact sizes for peripheral pad devices, with support for pitches starting at 0.30 mm.
