A UHF squeeze prompts amplifier redesign
A need for LTE spectrum has forced a shrinkage in the UHF TV band, with the upper band down to as low as 700 MHz. NXP showed a Doherty power amp designed to handle these needs. A Doherty amplifier is basically two power amplifiers where one operates only when necessary to handle peak power. The amplifier uses an NXP LDMOS power transistor. Also on display was an LDMOS amp designed to handle S-band radar apps.
